Marijke van der Merwe
Marijke studied at the University of Stellenbosch during 2004–2007 and won the Prize for Best Practical Midwifery Student as well as Professional Practice Student for the Year 2007. She then worked for government for five and a half years and completed her Advanced Midwifery and Neonatology Honours degree in 2010.
After having two children and completing a year’s contract as a midwife in Saudi Arabia, she worked for Origin Family-Centred Maternity Hospital in 2015–2016. She has completed the Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Certificate with the American Heart Foundation.
Marijke is currently in private practice, and would like women to know that they are brave and fearless and are capable of just about anything they set their hearts and minds to.
Nicolene qualified in 1993 and has more than 20 years’ experience working as a midwife. She has worked in the public sector, both locally and abroad, and spent three years in Occupational Health setting up clinics.
Nicolene also has experience as a study coordinator at Stellenbosch University across various departments, including Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and was based at the Tygerberg Hospital Campus for nine years before beginning her own successful midwifery practice in 2008. She currently forms part of a research team with the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the University of Stellenbosch in the field of cervical cancer. She has completed the Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Certificate with the American Heart Foundation.
